AYLUS Gainesville Branch — October 26, 2025
The AYLUS Gainesville Branch organized its Weekend Speech & Debate Coaching Program at Oaks Hall School on Sunday, October 26, 2025, as part of the Huagen Chinese School weekend program open to all community members. Volunteers Jalen Zheng, Logan Wu, Mia Yu, and Michael Huan each contributed 1 hour of free volunteer service in coaching for students.
During this session, the volunteers provided hands-on instruction for students ranging from 3rd grade to high school, introducing them to the fundamentals of debate, speech structure, and persuasive communication. The coaches guided participants through speaking drills, case organization, and teamwork exercises designed to strengthen confidence and critical thinking.
Each volunteer spent 0.5 hour preparing customized lesson materials and 1 hour coaching students during the AYLUS Gainesville Weekend Speech & Debate Program at Oaks Hall School. Preparation time was directly related to the teaching content and considered part of the volunteer service.
By sharing their experiences as competitive debaters and youth leaders, the volunteers helped inspire younger students to express their ideas clearly and respectfully. This weekly program continues to promote leadership, logic, and civic engagement — key values of the AYLUS mission — while enriching Gainesville’s educational community.
