On October 19th, 10 AYLUS volunteers set up their stand at Russell Creek Park. Fundraising for the Plano Children’s Medical Center, the volunteers helped make cotton candy, shaved ice, and popcorn for children and adults alike. Additionally, they sold bottled water and huge fancy balloons. They split the roles of creating which items between themselves, as well as designated who would be the cashier and who would be part of the advertising team. However, after an hour, the volunteers were free to switch roles in case any one needed a break. The event leaders also helped teach volunteers how to do different roles than some were used to – such as create cotton candy or do advertising. Despite the fact that it was Sunday (instead of the usual Saturday), a day before school, and despite the fact it was colder—many people still came to the AYLUS stand! They especially loved the cotton candy, although one kid bought one of the huge fancy balloons. Even just as the volunteer stand was closing, a kid still asked for a shaved ice! All in all, the event was successful. Good work, volunteers!
