On Saturday, October 18th, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, a group of members from the AYLUS Dix Hills decided to volunteer at Bethpage State Park. This beautiful place is known for its five world-class golf courses and also where many championships took place. As all the volunteers gathered together, we drove our vehicles to the gardening area that needed to be revamped and cleaned up. Firstly, each helper used several tools to get rid of anything that didn’t belong in the gardens. Our purpose was to make the rows of garden areas more aesthetically pleasing and to remove any invasive ivy that could potentially spread throughout the area. We prevented the invasive ivy from killing all the other healthy native plants. It is important to remember that they always grow back. A simple solution to this is to dig out the roots. This means the growth process will slow down, so it doesn’t have to be maintained as high.
Volunteers: Aki Cheng, Jake Wu, Jonathan Fan, Sumeng Liu (Great Neck), Jason Huang (Great Neck)
