On the Sunday of October 5th, from 12-2 pm, the Roslyn Branch took part in the Nassau County Mid-Autumn Festival at Eisenhower Park to raise funds for our CP Nassau volunteering program, where volunteers visit residential houses dedicated to adults with cerebral palsy to spend quality time with them. Volunteers talked to people visiting our table about our program and made an effort to sell a variety of things donated by Aylus Roslyn members and families to fund and support people with disabilities.
Each person had to be able to have patience and be aware of people who pass by and stop by. We introduced AYLUS Roslyn and what we do with people with cerebral palsy, and asked them to support us by buying accessories and toys. It is challenging to take “No” as an answer, but we managed to sell some items. It is also challenging because most people expect to get things for free during the festival, so a few children did take our items for sale and ran away. We are happy that we raised awareness among people about cerebral palsy, and promoted our organization because a lot of parents asked to join Aylus so that their children can be volunteers, too. All in all, this experience allowed us to understand the importance of being patient and optimistic when promoting our programs, raising funds and handling children.
