On October 1, 2025, Newtown AYLUS members volunteered at Capital Health Medical Center to assist staff and support patients. We helped with tasks such as transporting items, guiding visitors, and providing general assistance wherever needed. By helping with small but meaningful responsibilities, we contributed to a smoother hospital environment.
This event was important to us as students because it gave us a chance to observe how a professional medical setting functions. We were able to see how doctors, nurses, and staff work together to provide patient care, and how even small contributions from volunteers can make a difference. It also strengthened our interest in healthcare and gave us hands-on experience in a professional environment.
For the broader world, volunteering in hospitals highlights the value of community support in healthcare systems. Hospitals are often busy and stressful places, and volunteers help ease that burden by assisting both staff and patients. Encouraging students to volunteer in medical centers not only builds compassion and responsibility but also fosters the next generation of healthcare workers who will serve communities globally.
Volunteers: Eric Chen (Event Leader), and Aaron Temmer. Each volunteer contributed for 3 hours.
