Three AYLUS Basking Ridge members spent the morning of September 27, 2025, at Saturdays in Motion at the GSCY YMCA. For the volunteer who was new to SIM, the day began with a quick orientation to get acquainted with the program, while the other two helped set up the gym and activity areas before the children arrived.
Once the session started, each volunteer was paired with a child with special needs. Together, they climbed on gymnastics equipment, played catch, raced along the inflatable track, and tried out all kinds of fun activities. There were plenty of laughs, cheers, and high-fives—moments where you could feel the excitement and pride on both sides.
But the real impact went beyond the games. For the children, it was a chance to be seen, encouraged, and celebrated for who they are. For our members, it was a reminder of the power of patience, kindness, and presence. By the end of the session, connections had formed, confidence had grown, and everyone left feeling a little lighter, a little braver, and a lot more connected. Those smiles and small victories showed that even a single morning of attention and care can make a lasting difference in someone’s life.
