AYLUS Basking Ridge volunteered at Bernards PEC program on 9/27/25

The Bernards PEC Program meets every Saturday morning from 9–11 a.m. in September and October. It’s a space where students help other students with special needs, not just with activities, but by sharing encouragement, patience, and friendship.

Our members start each session by leading a warm-up, demonstrating movements like galloping, high knees, and stretches, cheering the students on and celebrating every small accomplishment. Then come the games—whether it’s racing through a hula-hoop challenge, trying their hand at a friendly bowling game, or teaming up for group activities, laughter and high-fives fill the room.

The magic of PEC goes beyond exercise. It’s in the shy smiles that turn into confident grins, the moments when a student masters a new skill, or the way everyone celebrates each other’s successes. For our volunteers, it’s a chance to witness growth, share joy, and form real connections. By the end of every morning, everyone leaves a little happier, a little braver, and reminded that encouragement and care can make a lasting difference.
