On September 27, 2025, young musicians from the Music in Town program had the privilege of performing at the Glenwood Library in Howard County for an audience of individuals with special needs and their families. The performance was met with joy—smiles, applause, and heartfelt engagement from the audience reminded us that music truly is a universal language that connects people beyond words.
The mission of Music in Town is to share music with people in need, and this event was a powerful step toward that goal. For the audience, it was a chance to experience music as joy and comfort; for us as student performers, it was an opportunity to see the impact of our music in real time. Each note we played was met with warmth and enthusiasm, reinforcing the idea that performance is not just about technical skill, but about connection and shared humanity.
As student musicians, we also grew through this experience. Preparing for the performance required teamwork, discipline, and adaptability, and the moment we saw how our music uplifted the audience, we understood the deeper purpose of our practice. We left Glenwood Library with full hearts—grateful for the chance to bring happiness to others and motivated to continue carrying forward our mission.
Music is not just art—it is service, it is community, and it is a bridge between people. Music in Town will continue to nurture both the joy of those we play for and the growth of the young musicians who serve.
