On September 14, AYLUS volunteers partnered with 92130 Cares for the first time to support the Sunday Free Farmers Market, distributing donated food to low-income families in the community.

The collaboration grew out of our earlier Egg Carton Drive, and this event marked a meaningful next step. 92130cares volunteers collected food donations from local groceries,

The food included eggs, bread, peaches, strawberries, plums, radishes, tomatoes, and a variety of other vegetables. While there was an abundance of strawberries, many were spoiled, requiring volunteers to spend much time carefully sorting and discarding the bad ones before organizing the fresh food for distribution.

AYLUS volunteers played a key role in unloading items from vehicles, inspecting donations, discarding spoiled food, and sorting the rest. Fresh and usable food was carefully organized on tables by category, creating an accessible and welcoming setup for distribution.

Finally, the food was distributed to low-income families in the neighborhood, ensuring that the donations directly reached those in need. Everyone was so focused on the work—including AYLUS volunteers who went straight to a basketball game afterward—that we completely forgot to take a group photo.

Everyone worked so hard—including volunteers rushing off to a basketball game afterward—that we completely forgot to take a group photo!

One highlight was when the 92130 Cares coordinator praised Zoe Ying, calling her the most impressive volunteer she had ever worked with, noting Zoe’s attentiveness and initiative.

This event deepened our partnership with 92130 Cares and gave our volunteers a meaningful opportunity to contribute to food security in our community.
