The Bernards PEC Program meets every Saturday morning from 9–11 a.m. in September and October. It’s more than a program—it’s a space where students support their peers with special needs, helping them feel seen, encouraged, and part of a team.
Our members start the morning with a fun warm-up, demonstrating movements like galloping, high knees, and stretches, cheering on every effort. Then come the games—hula-hoop challenges, bowling, and team activities that get everyone laughing, cheering, and celebrating each other’s successes.
The best moments aren’t just about the games. They’re in the shy smile that turns into a confident grin after trying something new, the high-five shared after a small victory, and the way students and volunteers genuinely connect with each other. For our volunteers, it’s a morning full of inspiration, seeing firsthand how patience, encouragement, and shared fun can make a real difference. By the end of each session, everyone leaves a little happier, a little braver, and reminded of the power of kindness and connection.
