On September 13, 2025 from 8:30-12:30, Maureen Reagan, Ada, and Matias joined our volunteers in weeding at Bowne Park for our branch’s 193rd event. We noticed that the park’s fences were covered with weeds and vines as soon as we entered, so we knew a lot of work had to be done for this event.
When we got to work, the middle and elementary schoolers focused on getting rid of the vines that were growing through, while the high schoolers, with the guidance of Roxanna, worked on using shovels and pitchforks to take out the overwhelming amounts of weeds, as well as the overgrown vines. We then stored all the weeds and vines into garbage bags using the rakes and picking the weeds up using gloves. As time passed on, the section of the park with the heavy amounts of vines was cleared off, and everyone moved onto the next section, where Maureen showed us to remove the weeds a foot around the fences so the weeds would not get stuck on them.
After the event, in total we tallied 43 bags of trash that filled up from the gardening we had all done. Our branch hopes that by doing this work, we can better our community and society. Even though Maureen Reagan’s birthday was today, she still sacrificed her time to help out for the community. We all want to thank Maureen, Roxanna, and Matias and all the volunteers for joining in on this event, as they helped us on our way to beautify our community.
