AYLUS Dix Hills Helps with Packaging seeds in Bethpage State Park

On the morning of Saturday, September 6th, from 9am to 11am, the AYLUS Dix Hills Branch volunteered at Bethpage State Park to fill seed packets with seeds. The Dix Hills branch along with the Great Neck branch volunteers filled packets with an assortment of various seeds, coming from over a hundred kinds of flowers around the park. Volunteers quickly formed small assembly lines, having one person filling the seed packets while another person sealed the packets with a sticker. Some groups even had someone dedicated to just peeling stickers for the person sealing the packets to use. The volunteers filled and sealed a total of three thousand packets in just 2 hours, after which they were given a tour around the nearby gardens. This is beneficial, as the seed packets would be given out to people, allowing them to plant native flora beneficial to the environment. This would hopefully help against invasive species taking nutrients, replacing them with native species that have an actual purpose in the ecosystem.

Volunteers: Aki Cheng, Aja Cheng, Jake Wu, Jonathan Fan

Volunteer Hours: 2 hours each
