On 8/30/2025, Aylus volunteers went to the Valley Garden in Bethage State Park to help coordinate with volunteer coordinators to remove weeds and cut off vines from 9:00am to 11:00am (2 hours).
After gathering, volunteers were divided into two groups and took a ride down to the garden. They got some tools like gloves, sickles and gardening shears. One helped pull out plants that mainly included mugworts, the other one cut off the vines from the tree. After all of this, the plants were transported into a small truck, and the volunteer coordinators drove them away and used them to make fertilizer.
Also, people need to remove these plants because the competition for nutrients between invasive species and original plants could easily kill the original plants. Volunteers’ contributions are meaningful and successfully keep ecosystem healthy and maintain balance between species.
By the way, here will be hosting the Ryder Cup from September 23~29. Volunteers’ job was to make sure the garden is looking its best for the big event!
