On August 30, 2025, volunteers from the Austin Branch organized a community creek cleanup to safeguard local waterways and the habitats they support. Creeks play a vital role in sustaining biodiversity, yet they are increasingly threatened by human-generated waste. Discarded materials such as plastic bottles, cans, and batteries can release harmful substances into the water, diminishing its quality and endangering aquatic organisms. Throughout the event, volunteers worked together to collect and dispose of a wide range of litter from the creek and surrounding areas. This effort directly reduced the risk of pollution while improving the health of the ecosystem. The cleanup not only benefits common aquatic life but also helps protect vulnerable species such as the Springs Salamander and the Golden-cheeked Warbler. By preserving these natural spaces, the volunteers contributed to creating a healthier, safer environment for both wildlife and the community. Volunteers: Michael Qu (4 hours), Sophia Guo (4 hours), Juhi Ma (4 hours).
