On the evening of August 28, 2025, volunteers Rebecca Xu, Baiyu Chen, Emma Ding, and Linzi Yeung conducted a one-hour tutoring session at the Great Neck Station Library. Linzi Yeung guided the children in reading, helping them improve comprehension by explaining text context and key points. Rebecca Xu assisted with homework tutoring, clarifying confusing concepts in subjects like Chinese and English to ensure the children grasped underlying knowledge. Baiyu Chen focused on math tutoring for two students who are about to enter seventh grade, explaining core topics such as algebraic expressions and equations with examples to build their confidence for junior high studies. Emma Ding helped an 8th grader to understand some grammars and also gave her a few practices
This activity was meaningful for all: the children received targeted help to address academic gaps and prepare for the new school year, while the volunteers gained valuable communication and teaching experience, deepening their understanding of community service. It not only strengthened the children’s academic foundation but also highlighted the positive impact of volunteer work in supporting youth growth.
