On August 16th 2025, 4 members of the AYLUS volunteered at CP Nassau Seaford from 1 to 4 pm.
Residents were very friendly when they saw us. We started off by doing some arts and crafts. There were stencils that we could decorate so that’s what we did. They painted the frames very colorful and would like to hang them on their wheelchairs.
After that, it was time to make cookies. We brought all the ingredients needed to make the cookies. The recipe we used needed flour, sugar, brown sugar, an egg, salt, baking soda, butter, and chocolate chips. First we melted the butter. Then, we put the sugars in and mixed it very well until it turned into a paste. After that, we cracked an egg into the mixture. Once the egg was mixed in, we added the dry ingredients, which were flour, salt, and baking soda. When everything was mixed together, the volunteers put on some gloves and formed the cookie dough into balls and put them onto a baking sheet. The oven was preheated to 350 degrees. The cookies went in for about 12 minutes. The first batch of cookies were still kind of bumpy and a little hard so the next batch we put in we made sure to press them down so they were flat. The cookies came out a lot better and tasted very good. Everyone enjoyed them a lot.
Lastly, we played with some puzzles and then we played two rounds of Uno with the residents. We helped them with organizing the cards and reminding them when to take or throw the cards. They were cheerful when they won the game. It was a wonderful experience for us to interact with the residents. One of the residents liked us so much that she would like to donate her musical record to us. It was very fun to play with them. We hope to see them again soon!
