On Sunday, August 16, from 1:00pm to 3:30 pm, members of the Aylus Roslyn Branch
volunteered at Roslyn Bryant Library to provide a program called Learn about Robotics. This
program is helps branch out the Robotics community. Volunteers included students from the
C2C VEX Robotics team and Wheatley High School’s Cyber Cats FRC team. This
demonstration helps the community explore STEM and creativity.
First, we helped set up the area and prepare the area for a presentation. We moved
chairs and figured out how to set up the lighting. This helped prepare us to present better as we
had a better field of the area.
Secondly, we presented a slideshow that we all helped create. This slideshow included
who we are, our journeys through robotics, and what STEM activities we do. We presented our
robotics journey and what got us into robotics and how robotics helped us gain skills like
teamwork, brainstorming, and strong communication skills.
After introducing ourselves, we went on to show what each type of Robotics is about.
How VEX and FRC are different and how there are many types of ways to introduce yourself to
STEM activities. We presented each of our games and what the goals were and how we
overcame them.
After this, we provided a live demonstration of the games with robots we had brought in.
The Cyber Cats provided people with a showcase of the game and C2C provided them with
being able to control robots and drive around.
Finally, after all of this was over, we helped reset and clean up all of the chairs and
tables we had taken out. This was an amazing experience being able to branch out into many
different communities and we would definitely volunteer here again.
