San Diego Branch Hosted the 2nd English for the Elderly On-Ground Meeting on August 15th, 2025

Reported by Colin Xie

On August 15th, members of the AYLUS San Diego branch collaborated with the Alliance of Chinese Americans (ACA) to organize the 2nd on-ground meeting for tutors of English for the Elderly, a program in which AYLUS volunteer tutors teach English in weekly one-on-one lessons to elderly men and women for use in their daily lives.

During this meeting, volunteer tutors discussed what they could do to improve the program. A demonstration was held for the first draft of a website that includes English learning resources categorized based on type and difficulty level, in order to gain feedback before the website is finalized.

The volunteers also shared their experiences in teaching for English for the Elderly, to be compiled in a FAQ section on the website and used for reference by future tutors.

The following members participated in the 2nd on-ground meeting for English for the Elderly, 1.5 volunteer hours each:

Andrew Chen, Colin Xie, Emily Wu, Lauren Kan, Liana Xie, Max Yang, Sophia Wu
