On Wednesday August 13th, from 3:00 pm to 7:00pm, members of the AYLUS Roslyn Branch volunteered at Nosh Delivers! For their Nosh Backpack Giveaway. Nosh Delivers! is a food pantry, however today we helped them with giving out backpacks with supplies to kids for the upcoming school year.
First, we helped set up tables, chairs, and tents outside. We then set out backpacks on the tables, splitting the tables into different sections for backpacks for different grades. We would give out tickets to families coming in, guide them to the correct grade, and let them choose which color they preferred. However, we saw that it was going to rain soon, so we packed up the tables, chairs, backpacks, and tents and moved them inside. We continued to assist people in finding the right backpack for them. At the end, we helped clean up by folding tables and putting backpacks into bags.
We had a lot of fun helping out families and seeing how happy they were. We also had a lot of fun talking to the other volunteers. We learned a lot of things about communication and teamwork.
