On Friday August 1st, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., members of the AYLUS Roslyn Branch partnered with Nosh Delivers to aid in a food drive. This wasn’t the first time members have been here and we have previously collaborated on several occasions. Many people don’t receive enough aid to eat full meals throughout the year and organizations, such as Nosh Delivers, help ensure they don’t go hungry.
As the day began, Linda assigned us roles and we stocked shelves with produce. Furthermore, we also checked the quality of the produce to ensure it was fresh and safe to consume. Many donors had food stored in their cars, so later we helped unpack and either stored or gave out this food as well. Something unique at this food drive is the ‘Kid’s Lunch’ section, which is exceptionally popular. We decorated and stocked the lunches (KFIP Bags) and informed our supervisor of exactly how much produce they’d need, per week, to continue providing these lunches.
Eventually the day died down and less people were coming in toward closing (~1:00 p.m.). That’s when we started taking apart boxes, emptying the trash, and cleaning the warehouse. Overall, we had an eventful day and the team was very kind. This food drive was undoubtedly a team effort and we truly hope that our contributions made a positive impact on our community. We’re proud of not only the work we’ve done today, but also of all the meals we’ve been able to provide. It’s safe to say that volunteering was fun for all of us and we’re excited to help out again!
