On Saturday, August 2nd, from 3:15 PM to 5:00 PM, volunteers of the AYLUS Great Neck branch hosted an event for children at Parkville Library. The activities included reading stories as well as crafts such as origami and crochet. Victoria read “Scroll”, Rebecca read “Spicy Spicy Hot”, and Nathan read “Everyone Loves Lunchtime but Zia”. Rainie, Victoria, and Lynne taught crochet to the kids while Andrew, Nathan, and Rebecca made origami, lucky stars, and other paper crafts.
The event was intended to augment imagination, introduce new concepts, as well as enriching attention span, motor skills, and hand-eye coordination. With activities such as arts and crafts, as well as enjoying books, the program encouraged open-mindedness to new topics, inspired new hobbies and passions, and increased vocabulary development, critical thinking, and memory skills.
