Mclean Branch Debate Virtual Summer Camp

Report by Ellen Zhang

Virtual Summer PF Debate Camp—(July 7th- July 18th)Public forum debate is great for the community as a way to educate people on current events and provide them a platform to discuss their ideas. Individually, it helps young people develop essential life skills like communication, teamwork, and critical thinking, while providing an extracurricular for them to enjoy.

Thus, this class aimed to get students interested in debate and teach them the vital skills to succeed. Activities included lectures, interactive drills, practice debates, and optional homework. While the class focused on applications to debate, the lessons about public speaking, argumentation, and research can benefit students’ everyday life.

The following volunteers that participated are Ellen Zhang (24 hours) and Emma Zhang (16 hours).
