AYLUS Roslyn Provides Food to Local Families Through NOSH Delivers! Food Pantry (92nd) on July 29th, 2025

On Tuesday July 29th, from 9:00AM to 1:00PM, the AYLUS Roslyn Branch volunteered with NOSH Delivers. NOSH Delivers is a food pantry in Glen Cove that strives to make sure families in need have access to food. They offer goods such as produce, meat, dairy and even personal hygiene products like soap and toothbrushes.

When we arrived at NOSH Delivers, it was very busy and we had just gotten a new delivery of items such as sunflowers and baked goods. Linda, the Director of Operations assigned us to begin assisting in the farmers market so we quickly headed there to begin our first task. We handed shoppers pre-portioned bags of different produce such as grapes, tomatoes and avocados. Shortly after that, Linda gave us our next job and that was to assemble NOSH bags that were to be filled with produce. NOSH bags are bags that are filled with food that will be delivered to the immobile, elderly, or people without the transportation to be able to get to NOSH Delivers. We filled the bags with fruits and vegetables like corn, apples and lettuce. Once we finished, we cleaned up the table we worked on and started to do different tasks.

One volunteer loaded vegetables into a refrigerator while another volunteer cut the heads off of carrots so that they would still be edible. Most of our work was completed now but we still had some small tasks to do. We had a very large crate of limes that weren’t in the best conditions so we sorted through it and threw out the rotten or moldy limes. We restocked the shelves and organized them so the food pantry looked more presentable and also started decorating KFIP bags so that in a couple of days we could fill them with lunches or breakfasts for children. We finally finished off the day by restocking the empty cart of KFIP bags so the children who came could have a large selection of designs to choose between.

Volunteering at NOSH Delivers is amazing not just because you get to help people in need, but because every week, you see familiar faces that always smile at you.
