On Friday, July 25th, Syosset AYLUS volunteers spent the day at the Sangha Learning Center engaging in hands-on nature-based creativity. In the morning, we participated in Meadow Farm Garden Decorating Day, where volunteers and participants worked side-by-side to beautify the garden space. We used the stones we painted the other day to add them into the Kindness Garden. In the afternoon, we transitioned to a fascinating art session involving paint dyeing with magical indigo leaves. Participants learned about the traditional dyeing process using indigo plants, a natural source of brilliant blue hues. We used a silk cloth and mashed up indigo leaves to extract the color. There were all different shades of blue with different designs. Some looked like tie-dye and others looked like a solid blue color. It was both a scientific and artistic experience, blending curiosity with creativity. The day closed with smiles, stained hands, and a beautiful collection of dyed cloths that reflected everyone’s unique style.
