On Saturday, July 27th, two members of AYLUS Syosset went to the Huntington station King Kullen. From 1-4pm, they rotated jobs with one member at the entrance at all times, handing out flyers with lists of non-perishable items they accepted. The other member would accept donations and sort them into boxes of pastas, canned goods, cereals, pet food and hygiene products.
The outcome was exceptional with dozens of shoppers donating multiple bags of goods. At the end of the event, the store manager came out and helped the volunteers move all the donations to the back for a Long Island Cares worker to pick them up and bring them to various food pantries across Long Island. LI Cares is a food bank founded by Harry Chapin that brings together all available resources for the benefit of the hungry and food insecure on Long Island. They also strive to educate the general public about the causes and consequences of hunger on Long Island.
