Please see the report for July 20 below
On Sunday, July 20th, from 10:30 AM to 1:30PM, the AYLUS Roslyn Branch visited the CP Nassau Bayville location.
We started off the day with the residents greeting us with a cheerful good-morning song, led by the recreational therapist. We interacted warmly with each resident, greeting them by name with excitement. This personal connection made all the residents feel happy and valued. Our first activity of the day was a ball-tossing game, where the residents had to throw a ball into an inflatable goal. The residents aimed soft balls at an inflatable goal marked with different point values. To foster engagement and a sense of ownership, we carefully positioned the goal within comfortable reach for each participant and let them choose a number they wanted to throw. Many of them were excited to join in and had a lot of fun. It was a great way to get everyone moving and involved. After that, the residents said they wanted to play on the Wii, so we decided to play a game of Jeopardy. While some residents were excited to play, others didn’t feel like joining. To make sure everyone was included, we set up a game of bingo for those who preferred that. After the Wii activity, we all split up into smaller activities, giving the residents time to relax or chat with each other at their own pace. Some played with puzzles and darts while others played Connect 4 and colored. These diverse activities not only catered to individual preferences but also actively supported the development of fine motor skills. For our last game of the day, we played UNO, each of us decided to team up with a resident, which made the game even more fun and competitive. There was a lot of laughter, quick thinking, and playful energy, which made it a really exciting way to end the day. As lunchtime approached, we assisted residents with their transition from the recreation room to the dining area.
Spending time with the residents reminded us how meaningful even the simple moments can be, and the joy they shared with us really stayed with us. We hope to see them again soon and keep making more special memories together.
