Achieve Together: Pearland Branch Community Chess Class (#74) on July 20, 2025

On Sunday July 20, 2025, Joshua Meng and Brendon Jiang hosted the Pearland Branch volunteer chess lesson. The students competed against each other, seeing who could solve each position quickly and accurately. Through this, they learned to recognize different types of basic checkmates. Additionally, they saw that even a seemingly equal position may be suddenly changed with a few good moves. They reviewed an expert game and learned how to play “positionally”. Afterwards, the students had the opportunity to play against fellow peers and implement what they learned.

AYLUS Pearland provides an opportunity to the community to learn about the wonders of chess, while still having fun, allowing them to practice concepts that they have learned, gain knowledge, and improve their overall gameplay.

Event Lead (3 hours): Joshua Meng
