On Saturday July 19, 2025, 8:30am – 12:00pm, our team hosted our 174th event. The Aylus Oakland Gardens volunteered at Weeping Beech Park. This event was packed with things to do. Our member weeded and picked up trash to make the park look a lot better. Our board members separated all our members into 4 groups. Elementary students, middle schoolers, highschoolers, and all grades mixed. Elementary students and some middle schoolers picked up trash around the whole park. The park was full of trash on the floor and it was extremely dirty. Middle schoolers and high school students started weeding around the park.
Group 1, which consisted of elementary school students and some of the middle schoolers did a great job picking up the cans, plastic bags, and other garbage around to park. Group 2 which consisted of middle schoolers started weeding around the park, raking leaves and the weeds. When they finished raking up the weeds and leaves, they would throw out the weed and leaves into a trash bag. Group 2 were also taking sweet gums, which are the spiky balls that randomly fall from trees. The 3rd Group also took out weeds. Some of the members in group 3 used their hands to pull them out but the other members used shovels to dig the weeds out. Using shovels to dig out the weeds can more precisely take the weeds out so they don’t grow again. Lastly, Group 4 also did some more weeding. But towards the end one of our high school students took their time to cut down some yucca. When the yucca plant blooms, it starts to dry out. Our member had to cut the stem after it bloomed.
We would like to thank Ada for letting us clean up here and make this park look better. Thank you so much to all the parks management out there and we hope we can work with you guys another time. Thank you!
