On Wednesday, July 15, 2025, members of the Newtown Branch of AYLUS dedicated their time from 11:45 AM to 4:15PM volunteering at the FabLab Center (One Ivybrook Blvd Suite 190, Warminster, PA 18974, USA). FabLab is a STEAM learning center where children and youth of all ages are able to explore various technologies and skills related to science, engineering, art, and math.
Our two volunteers began the afternoon conversing and getting to know the campers while they were doing their virtual reality activity. In the activity, the campers took turns in groups trying out the headsets. The campers that weren’t using the headsets were building creative towers with keva planks and making arts and crafts with cardboard. Afterward, the campers had their free time, where they could build with the keva planks, use the laptops and iPads for activities such as fabmaker studio and tinkercad. Once their free time was over, it was time for dismissal. During this time, our two volunteers were tasked with making sure every device was charged for the next day.
The event was very successful, with students being satisfied with their own creations and progress. They also received enthusiastic help from our volunteers whenever there was a concern or technical issue.
Members who participated were Ryan He (Event Leader) and Daniel Tang, both for 4 hours.
