Stem n Tech (#59): Pearland Branch Community Robotics Class (#25) on July 2nd, 2025

It was a bright early afternoon and we, the volunteers, came to Huaxia Chinese School, set up the classes a few minutes early, and as such, class also began slightly early. There were 9 students who took our class, and after we did ice breakers and let kids introduce themselves, we began the teaching. Our lesson materials were in the form of a lengthy PowerPoint presentation and three beefy boxes chock-full of Lego and machinery.
This lesson was about basic robotics mechanisms, including motors, the hub, and the three types of sensors: color, touch, and ultrasonic sensors. All of these we taught a general overview of, and then we gave the children a challenging challenge, in which the students were challenged to utilize their newfound knowledge of the above topics to build and code a robot that can drive forward and avoid obstacles.
