Murrieta AYLUS Helps Local Senior Center (120th) (7/6/2025)

Reported by Jessica Lu :

On July 6th, 2025, Murrieta AYLUS members helped their local senior center.

Murrieta AYLUS members talked with the front desk ladies for a bit before making their separate ways to the library and to the ice cream parlor. In the library, members saw the couches already full with seniors waiting for them. They started with some jazzy pieces before playing some famous classical pieces. In between, members took song requests from seniors, and at the end, they ended with a famous piece that every senior knew and sang along to. In the ice cream parlor, members served seniors ice cream. That day, since they were running low on ice cream, the staff brought out a huge oreo-coffee ice cream cake, which attracted tons of seniors. Members also got a little sweet treat at the end before signing out.

On July 6th, 2025, Murrieta AYLUS members helped at their local senior center.
First, the volunteers started on a nail spa, letting the residents choose their nail color and style while relaxing with a nice finger bath. Afterward, the members worked on making a dozen fruit bowls with cottage cheese, grapes, and strawberries, making sure to chop the fruit up into small, edible pieces for the residents. When the snacks had been prepared and served out to every resident, the volunteers worked on the drinks, making sure to take account every residents specific requirements and preferences. Finally, when all the food and drinks had been cleared away, calming music was played overhead and another volunteer came over to lead an art class, letting residents play with watercolors to replicate paintings, their replications which would eventually be sold off at a fundraiser for the senior center.
