On Tuesday July 1st, the AYLUS Roslyn Branch volunteered with NOSH Delivers from 9:00 AM- 1:00 PM. NOSH Delivers is a food pantry who provides food for families in need.
We started the day by dividing tasks, with 2 members going to help in the pantry and the other 2 members helping put together produce bags. In the pantry, our volunteers helped to sort fruits and vegetables and gave these products to those coming into the pantry. In the back, we helped fill bags that were to be delivered with squash, onions, apples, potatoes, and carrots. We also helped to fill the delivery cars with frozen meat and milk.
After all the deliveries were finished, we all helped to put away items used outside, namely the palettes used to store food. We then used the rest of our time looking to help where we could, with 2 of us returning to the pantry and other 2 helping to constantly stock the shelves. In the final ten minutes, we were tasked to help fill breakfast bags for children.
This experience showed us how to efficiently complete tasks as well as communicate with other people to divide and conquer. Communication was necessary not only to get work done, but to also find more ways to help. We hope to work with NOSH again in the near future.
