Newtown AYLUS Volunteers at FabLab Galactic Explorers Space with STEAM

On June 30, 2025, from 11:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., members of the Newtown Branch of AYLUS volunteered at the FabLab Center (One Ivybrook Blvd. Ste 190, Warminster, PA), providing valuable support to both teachers and students to ensure the day’s events ran smoothly.

One of the main responsibilities for the volunteers was assisting children with their projects. Students frequently turned to volunteers for help with a wide range of tasks, from navigating flip pad or robot and locating specific materials to sharing and presenting their completed work. Volunteers actively moved around the space, offering help wherever it was needed.

In addition to assisting students, volunteers also supported teachers upon request. This included organizing supplies such as sorting colored markers and pencils, collecting computers used by the students, and maintaining a tidy materials station.

A major responsibility this time for volunteers was operating the cutting machine to create various shapes and patterns for the students to use in later activities. During the free activity period, students could choose from a variety of engaging stations, such as using the 3D printer, continuing to create new shapes with the help of volunteers on the cutting machine, building with LEGO or other blocks, or expressing their creativity through drawing and doodling. Volunteers actively guided students to their selected activities and ensured everyone was engaged and supported.

At the end of the event, volunteers helped instructors clean up the classroom by organizing teaching materials, putting away chairs and tables, and making sure the space was clean and orderly before leaving.

AYLUS members who participated are: Rumi Tian (4.5 hours), Ryan He (4.5 hours), Lucas Wu (4.5 hours).
