On Sunday June 29, 2025, Joshua Meng and Alicia Zhang hosted the Pearland Branch volunteer chess lesson. The students were introduced to basic chess concepts like the knight fork and tactical awareness in a position. They learned that even a seemingly equal position may be suddenly changed with a few good moves. Additionally, they reviewed an expert game and learned how to play “positionally”. Afterwards, the students had the opportunity to play against fellow peers and implement what they learned.
AYLUS Pearland provided an opportunity to the community to learn about the wonders of chess, while still having fun, allowing them to practice concepts that they have learned, gain knowledge, and improve their overall gameplay.
