On Monday, June 23, 2025, members of the Newtown Branch of AYLUS dedicated their time from 11:45 AM to 4:15 PM volunteering at the FabLab Center (One Ivybrook Blvd. Ste 190, Warminster, PA). FabLab is a STEAM learning center where children and youth of all ages are able to explore various technologies and skills related to science, engineering, art, and math.
2 volunteers helped a group of around 20 students to utilize an online game development software called Bloxels. Students were instructed to experiment with different types of command blocks in the software to develop their own unique game. Our volunteers assisted the students to create their ideal game. Whenever there were issues and roadblocks in the process, our volunteers quickly helped the student ls problem-solve and overcome obstacles. In addition, our volunteers set up and cleaned up the technology that the students were using to ensure that the camp went smoothly. When the students finished creating their games, our volunteers tested it for them and gave them advice on how to improve it or take it to the next level.
The event was very successful, with students being satisfied with their own games and amount of progress. The students all built upon their skills of problem-solving and trial and error. They also received enthusiastic help from our volunteers whenever there was a concern or technical issue.
Members who participated were Justin Peng (Event Leader) and Aiden Ye, both for 4.5 hours.
