On June 19th, 2025 from 7:45AM to 10:15AM, three AYLUS members of the Newtown Branch of AYLUS attended the FabLab Center (One Ivybrook Blvd. Ste 190, Warminster, PA) LEGO Engineering Camp event for elementary-aged students.
At Fablab, volunteers worked with a group of young students as they explored STEM concepts through hands-on LEGO challenges. Activities included building their own LEGO creations, building the tallest tower challenge, creating a sturdy bridge, designing a zipline, and even producing a short stop-motion animation video using LEGO pieces and Play-doh. Volunteers guided students through each activity, encouraging collaboration and problem-solving on the task at hand. Each member was required to be quick on their feet, being sure to check in with all groups equally to ensure that every student was engaged, supported, and able to participate fully in each activity. At the end of each activity, the volunteers helped clean and reorganize the space to prepare for the next event, as well as aiding in the campers’ smooth transition in between activities.
The event was a great success, with students enthusiastically engaging in all activities and gaining valuable experience in engineering, design, and teamwork. The volunteers played an essential role in creating and maintaining a positive atmosphere for creativity, learning, and imagination.
Members who participated were: Sarah Xue (event leader), Zhenyi Zhang, Celene Chen, each for 2.5 hours
