Murrieta AYLUS Lends a Hand to The Little Garden of Hope Project (73th) (6/14/2025)

Reported by Audrey Hsieh

On June 14, 2025, AYLUS members were doing maintenance in the vegetable garden.

On a bright and sunny morning, I walked into garden. The air was filled with the scent of soil and fresh grass. The vegetables in the garden were growing hard, but the weeds were growing quickly too. I squatted down and hummed a little tune as I carefully pulled out the weeds, giving the vegetables more space and nutrients.

Next, I sprinkled some organic fertilizer to make the soil more fertile. Then I picked up a bucket and watered each plant with cool water. Watching the droplets slowly seep into the soil, I felt as if the plants were happily drinking.

I walked over to where the angled loofah vines were growing. The vines had grown taller and had started to lean sideways. I quickly found some bamboo poles and built a simple trellis, carefully tying the loofah vines onto it. This way, they could climb higher, grow better, and their fruits wouldn’t touch the ground.

When I came to the tomatoes, I was surprised to find small fruits had already appeared! The round, green tomatoes hid among the leaves, shining like little gems. I gently touched them, feeling happy and full of hope.

Although taking care of the garden requires a lot of effort, every drop of sweat is rewarded with abundant harvest and joy.
