On June 8, members of AYLUS proudly volunteered at the SunriseWALKS Fundraiser held in Wheatley Heights, an annual event organized by the Sunrise Association. This year’s event was especially meaningful as it marked the 20th summer of “Sunrise Magic,” celebrating two decades of joy, hope, and healing for children with cancer and their siblings. The walk raised critical funds to support Sunrise Day Camps—free summer camps where young cancer patients and their siblings can experience the simple joy of childhood in a safe, unjudged, and welcoming environment.
We chose to participate in this event not only because of the important mission it supports, but also because we believe that with our volunteers, we could help make this event run smoother and make it happen. Simply just helping setting up the carnival stands, or cheering on the walkers helped make this wonderful event become its best form. Volunteering at the Sunrise Walk gave us the opportunity to help raise awareness, assist with event logistics, cheer on participants, and contribute to a warm, encouraging environment for families or loved ones affected by pediatric cancer and ALYUS is so grateful for this opportunity for our volunteers.
