Announcement of AYLUS’ response to the PVSA temporarily pause event
We have just received a notice that AmeriCorps—the national agency responsible for issuing the Presidential Volunteer Service Award (PVSA)—has temporarily paused the award application process. The timeline for resumption has not yet been announced.
We firmly believe that AYLUS members and advisors who are eligible for the PVSA should receive the honor and recognition they deserve for their contributions to the community over the past year. To address this sudden change, AYLUS has taken the following measures:
- Establishment of the AYLUS Volunteer Service Award: AYLUS has created its own Volunteer Service Award and will issue corresponding certificates in accordance with the original PVSA standards.
- Launch of a Dedicated Webpage: A new AYLUS Volunteer Service Award page has been added to the aylus.org website. This page states that the certificates are issued strictly based on PVSA criteria. Additionally, each branch’s list of award recipients will be published to support verification by relevant institutions when needed.
- Reissuance Upon Resumption: Once AmeriCorps resumes normal operations, AYLUS will immediately complete the pending PVSA applications and reissue the official awards as originally intended.
Though this situation presents challenges, it also offers an opportunity. AYLUS encourages all branch leaders, advisors, and members to turn this crisis into a chance to further demonstrate their dedication to community service. Use your leadership and creativity to inspire and make a meaningful impact.
