AYLUS Great Neck Branch Tutoring Week 14(4/29/25,5/1/25,5/3/25)

On Tuesday, April 29th, from 4:30 to 5:30 pm, the Great Neck Branch volunteered at the GN Station Library to assist students with their homework. We partnered with the library to provide academic support to young learners.

During the session, our team worked closely with students to address their academic challenges. Baiyu Chen focused on helping kids with math homework, explaining concepts clearly and ensuring they understood the material. Ivy Li provided support for English homework, guiding students through reading comprehension and writing exercises.

Our efforts had a positive impact on the students, who gained confidence in their abilities and completed their assignments more effectively. One surprising moment was when a student who initially struggled with a math problem independently solved a similar question after Baiyu’s guidance. A challenge we faced was adapting our explanations to different learning styles, but we overcame this by patiently rephrasing concepts and using visual aids.

This volunteer opportunity required strong communication skills, patience, and a solid understanding of the subjects. Through this experience, we learned the importance of tailoring our approach to each student’s needs and the value of fostering a supportive learning environment. We hope to continue helping students achieve their academic goals in the future.

On Thursday May 1th 2025, AYLUS Great Neck Branch hosted another tutoring session at The Great Neck Station Library from 6:00PM to 7:00PM. It was slow at first but people started to arrive later on.

We had 5 volunteers today but only 3 students; meaning two volunteers could team up to help one student. Summer helped a 7th grader with math state test preparation. Baiyu and Elaine helped a mother with improving her English as Ivy and Benjamin helped her son with homework and reading. Overall, it was a productive learning experience for the students and parents!
