AYLUS Great Neck Branch volunteers for Therapeutic ice skating (9th) 4/27/25

On Sunday, April 27th, from 1:45 – 3:15pm, volunteers from AYLUS Great Neck Branch

gathered together to support and help the therapeutic ice-skating program at the Andrew

Stergiopoulous rink.

As coach assistants, it is our job to support the coaches in various aspects of the skating

program. From teaching skaters new tricks to reviewing old ones to offering a steady hand for

balance and safety, to helping the skaters get ready for their end of year show on May 4th, we

coach assistants do our best to help skaters build their skills and confidence. When working with

young skaters, it is crucial to stay alert and keep a close watch to ensure that they remain safe

and within the designated skating area. Through volunteering as coach assistants, we learned

valuable lessons about patience, encouragement, and the importance of creating a supportive

and safe environment. The skaters and us both enjoyed this program.
