Murrieta AYLUS Volunteers at Habitat for Humanity/Manifee Better together #38(#4)– ABWK Senior Home painting project (4/26/2025)

On April 26th, 2025, a Murrieta AYLUS member supported Habitat for Humanity by participating in Menifee Better Together, an annual event organized by the City of Menifee to promote community beautification and celebrate Earth Day. Volunteers had the opportunity to choose from several projects, including the Flower Pot Project, Historical Monuments Project, and Menifee Rural Center Cleanup. Last year, the Murrieta AYLUS Branch assisted with senior home painting, and due to their experience with the “A Brush with Kindness” initiative, they were once again assigned to the Senior Home Revitalization project.

Upon arrival, each member signed a waiver before checking in at their designated station. They were then offered a complimentary breakfast before the opening remarks. The mayor of Menifee, along with several city council members and representatives from Habitat for Humanity, gave speeches expressing their gratitude and encouraging the volunteers for their commitment to service.

Afterward, volunteers headed to their assigned work areas. At the senior home, members were instructed to cover the lower portion of the house with brown paper to protect the section that had been freshly painted the day before. They also covered the ground around the house with tarps to prevent paint spills and stains. Each member then grabbed a bucket of paint, a roller, and a brush, and selected an area of the house to work on. Treating the project as if it were their own home, they painted with great care, conducting quality checks after finishing each section to ensure full coverage and touch-ups where needed.

Once the painting was complete, members helped clean up by collecting the paint buckets and tarps. They then returned to the main gathering spot, where a complimentary lunch was provided. The members enjoyed a well-deserved break and reflected on a rewarding day of community service.
