On Sunday April 27th, 2025, members of the AYLUS Chapel Hill branch partnered with the Chinese-American Friendship Association of North Carolina (CAFA) for a collaborative cleanup effort at Jordan Lake. United by a shared commitment to environmental protection, volunteers rolled up their sleeves and got to work clearing trash from the lake’s scenic shoreline.
Equipped with gloves, bags, and a strong sense of purpose, the group spent hours collecting litter, much of it washed up along the water’s edge or hidden in the underbrush. The team removed a wide range of debris that posed a threat to wildlife and water quality. By the end of the event, they had gathered several bags of waste—leaving the area visibly cleaner and healthier for both visitors and the natural ecosystem.
Beyond the tangible results, the event fostered a strong sense of camaraderie and civic responsibility among participants. This successful cleanup marks just one of many initiatives led by the AYLUS Chapel Hill branch, which remains dedicated to making a positive impact through service, leadership, and sustainability. Inspired by their efforts at Jordan Lake, the group plans to organize more environmental projects in the near future.
Volunteers who participated in this event were Grace Gao, Nicholas Wang, Ethan Li_DA and Justin Huang. Each participants had 1.5 hour of volunteering.
