AYLUS Roslyn Provides Food to Local Families Through NOSH Delivery! Food Pantry (64th) on April 17th, 2025

On Thursday, April 17, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, the AYLUS Roslyn Branch took initiative to engage in community service for NOSH Delivers— located at Glen Cove— a non-profit organization aiming to supply food to people in need.

As soon as the volunteers arrived, we were instructed to go straight to the back and create little baggies of chocolates for the incoming recipients as an Easter treat. These baggies included one larger chocolate Cadbury Creme Eggs and two smaller colorful Reese’s Pieces candies. After we filled about six or seven of these baskets, we moved onto the next task. Our next assignment was to break down and fold the cardboard boxes that were left over after their contents were emptied. These boxes were put towards the front of the building, and all four of us tried our hardest to flatten and organize them. Admittedly, it was a difficult task, but we did what we could.

Next on our agenda was to sort new produce that came in— edible from moldy. We did this box by box and carried each one, filled with ready-to-eat produce, to the “farmers market” or produce area of the food pantry. Furthermore, we were worried that there were too many patrons in that area so we all offered to help. For the rest of the time, we were stationed at the farmers market and helped these clients get their fresh produce. Laid out on the tables and racks were bread, milk, vegetables, fruits, and baked goods. We worked kind of like an assembly line, everyone at their stations, passing a plastic bag filled with the last station’s goods to the next person.

As a result, we learned about the importance of collaboration, teamwork, and customer service. We had to collaborate in order to succeed in making the baggies, work together to break down all of the boxes with just our strength, and serve the recipients at NOSH’s farmers market with respect and at a timely manner.
