AYLUS Oakland Gardens Branch Collect Books for Books for Taiwan (04/16/2025)

On April 16, 2025, our team hosted our 144th event. The AYLUS Oakland Gardens Branch has partnered with Books for Taiwan in order to collect books to donate. This is the second year that we have done this, motivated by our success from last year.

Books for Taiwan is a non-profit volunteer group in New Jersey, USA. Through fundraising and volunteers, they collect English books for rural schools, prisons, and catering schools in Taiwan. These books are also from libraries or the community, which are transported through ships. They have been doing this for over 20 years, donating a total of 1.2 millions books. Their original mission was to give back to Taiwan’s hometown and provide a large range of supplementary teaching materials for free so everyone can be familiar with English.

Our team came together to collect books in order to donate. Many members went through their collection of books to find books that they don’t read anymore in order to donate even the slightest bit to the cause. Some members even went around their community to ask for any books that would fit people who are learning English. All our members worked hard, wanting to bring change to communities outside of the United States.

These books are then handed to our parent advisor team to safekeep, making sure they aren’t damaged before they are donated. Thank you to our members for all their hard work.
