On April 12th, nine AYLUS volunteers set up our fundraising stand for the Plano Children’s Medical Hospital in Russell Creek park, starting from 6:00 PM and ending at 8:30 PM. Our items today were cotton candy, boba tea, and ice cream/ice cream floats. Hilariously, the root beer also sprayed everywhere as soon as the bottle cap was opened, which was pretty embarrassing in front of several customers! Additionally, it was windy—which caused our signs to keep falling down, our root beer supply was low (potentially because of how much sprayed out), and the ice cream ended up melting by nighttime. Although, this actually goes to show the popularity of ice cream floats, as we quickly ran out of root beer and the $1 ice cream was a customer favorite! And we ended up putting the signs (besides the menu, which was heavy enough to not be blown away) away. Another problem that arose was change. Due to our prices being $3 and $4, most purchases needed $1 bills as change, and supply for change was low. To circumvent this problem, we attempted selling 2 cotton candies for $5 (without much success, because we were closing soon). Next time, we will up our supply of change! Volunteers were split different roles again, for each item as well as managing the money and advertising. Many families came to help support our cause by giving a sweet treat for their children! By the end, we managed to raise over $200!
