Reported by Elissa Song, CARES We Care Project
On April 6, 2025, AYLUS Lake Washington Branch members Eric, Jerry, Kevin, and Elissa volunteered at the CARES 5K Walk/Run World Autism Awareness Day Event at the Sixty Acres Park in Redmond. They were assigned various tasks. Eric and Kevin were stationed at the turnaround point, directing participants, and cheering them on. Jerry guided traffic for the event and guided finishers to the reward station. Elissa helped do check in, welcoming participants, checking them in, ensuring all participants have signed the waivers, etc.
In this event our members communicated with various people, which helped them practice their 21st century leadership and communication skills. They all agreed that this experience was educational and helped them strengthen their knowledge in the community. The CARES Autism Awareness Walk/Run event provided a great opportunity for people to be aware of the significance in helping and taking care of the autism group in our communities.
Our branch members volunteered from 8:30am to 12:00pm, contributing a total of 14 volunteer hours:
Eric Huang: 3.5 hrs
Jerry Yang: 3.5 hrs
Elissa Song: 3.5 hrs
Kevin Chen: 3.5 hrs
Location: Sixty Acres Park, Redmond, WA
