AYLUS Dix Hills Volunteers at Bethpage State Park

On April 5th, from 9:00 to 11:30am AYLUS volunteers headed to Bethpage to work cleaning up a nature walkway. After the volunteers were instructed on where to work, they were given rakes, shovels and buckets. That day’s task was pulling out the English Ivy that was covering the ground and climbing up trees.

For over 2 hours volunteers tirelessly pulled out ivy from the ground. Shovels were provided to dig out any invasive plants or trees growing in the area. Volunteers were strategically placed around various points of the wood chip path so they could cover as much ground as possible.

In the end volunteers were able to restore the left side of the trail, making the path look much more polished and giving visitors a more pleasant experience.

Volunteers: Jake Wu (3 hours), Sunya Kong (2.5 hours), Abigail Chan (2.5 hours)
