On Saturday, March 29th of 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm EST, 2 members of the AYLUS Roslyn branch
visited C.P. Nassau’s Roosevelt residential home.
C.P. Nassau has been supporting many individuals with disabilities for over 75 years and it provides
various services including medical and primary care, therapy, education, etc. and it also have group
homes, which are similar with the Roosevelt residential home we visited today.
Today, it was a nice day (a Spring-like day, nice weather and trees and flowers start blossoming).
Therefore, to take advantage this long waited weather and scenery, we began today’s visit with a walk
around the neighborhood. The residents and accompanying AYLUS members enjoyed the walk very
much. We all had smiles on face. Upon the short walk, we returned to the residential home to do some indoor activities. And we left the door open so we can continue enjoying the breeze from outdoors!
We did some art and crafts (drawing fishes and painting art frames). With a surprise visitor (one of the
AYLUS member’s sister) tagged along, we even helped one of the female residents to paint her nails (she was so thrilled and happy, which made us happy too).
We then did some fun games (UNO) with the residents. Not sure it was the games really fun or it was
the weather, the fun and happy atmosphere in the room continued throughout our visit.
Through this volunteering event, we learned that we truly were here to make friends and activities with
the residents and every attendant (including AYLUS members) was happy and not feeling isolated by
staying indoors alone but able to do some walk together outdoors. It not only benefits the residents but the AYLUS members too.
As always, each of the CP Nassau visits is inspiring. We look forward to the next visit and beyond.
Members who participated include:
Michael Zhang (3 hours) and Kyle Shih (3 hours).
