AYLUS Roslyn helps out at a School of CCA of Long island (73) on March 30th, 2025

On March 30th of 2025, the Roslyn AYLUS branch helps out at the school of CCA- The Chinese Cultural Association of Long Island from 1:30 p.m.to 5:00 p.m.

We helped out as TAs assigned to different classrooms. Some of us went to Zhuyin classes and others went to Pinyin classes. We would assist the teachers of our assigned classroom to help keep the classroom from chaos. Some volunteers had younger kids so they had to make sure that the kids don’t leave the classroom when the teacher isn’t paying attention. During class, we helped the teacher by giving out awards, such as stickers, to the kids. After learning for a while, we took kids to use restrooms together. We showed kids that were new where the restrooms are. Then, kids were given coupons or “fake money” to buy snacks at the snack bar downstairs. Then the kids, following the teacher and TAs, went back to their classrooms. They ate their snack quietly while listening to mandarin songs. We always kept the classrooms prolific and motivated by tutoring the kids that needed aid by rereading or repeating the questions on their textbooks while communicating with them in Mandarin.

Around 4:00 pm, some kids would go to their culture class. This is the second section of class. In this section, the students chose what class they wanted to be in. Some examples are: Arts and Crafts, Calligraphy, Dance, Singing, or Martial Arts. Then at 5 o’clock, their parents would come to their culture classes to pick them up.
